Popular Democratic Movement’s (PDM) Katutura Central candidate for the upcoming Local Authority and Regional Council elections, Rodman Vezemba Katjaimo said that he aims to do more for the constituency’s residents if voted for another term.

This comes after the Katutura Central councillor held a campaign for the upcoming elections on Saturday. He underscored his commitment to uplift the social status of the Katutura Central residents.

“My second term promise is to scale up investment and create new economic hubs right here in the constituency,” said Katjaimo.

His campaign was centred on three pillars, with the first being economic empowerment and opportunity, which will include the launch of the Khomas Expo.

The councillor will also boost small business funding by increasing the funding to N$500,000.

“I commit to nearly doubling the budget for our income generating activities. Equipment program, increasing it from N$277,000 to N$500,000. This will provide vital equipment and capital to more aspiring small business owners than ever before,” he said.

The second pillar of the campaign focuses on investing in education and skills by building a secondary school, a vocational hub and free Wi-Fi for education. “Our community deserves world-class learning opportunities for all ages. We will build the education gap and equip our residents with the skills needed for the 21st century economy,” said Katjaimo.

His third pillar focused on safety, security and dignity for all, Katjaimo aims to advocate for safer streets in the Katutura Central Constituency as well as the establishment of the ‘dignity

through solar power’ initiative.

“I will aggressively advocate for the establishment and formal support of Neighbourhood Watch Groups across the constituency, fostering a direct partnership between residents and law enforcement to make our streets safer,” he argued.

The dignity through solar power initiative will involve converting the homes of our pensioners from the current electricity system to reliable and sustainable solar energy systems, lowering their monthly costs and ensuring they live in dignity and comfort. The councillor confirmed that the installation of air conditioning at the Katutura Health Centre (Clinic) has already been approved.

Viable projects which he has recommended for the 2026/2027 financial year include the installation of a 10,000 litres water tank at the Katutura Health Centre, the formalisation of the Oruramba Rua Rodman building’s ablution facility and the installation of a high last light.

Some of the notable achievements which Katjaimo noted during his first term include the construction of a constituency office in the Katutura Single Quarters, installing free Wi-Fi at the Katutura Library and Jacob Marenga Secondary School as well as building a soup kitchen at English Primary School. Vezemba Rodman Katjaimo broke Swapo’s stronghold for the Katutura Central Constituency by winning the 2020 elections with 1,983 votes.

He was followed by Michael Aihuki of Swapo (976 votes) and the Landless Peoples’ Movement’s Delphia Suxus (879 votes).

During the 2015 elections, Swapo’s Ambrosius Kandjii won the elections with 3,009 votes. Swapo’s Helster Gawanab claimed victory in 2004 with 1,732 votes out of the 5,180 casted votes.
