Health Ministry Confirms Limited Paracetamol Supply

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ministry of Health has confirmed that paracetamol formulations are in limited supply at health facilities but has assured the public that additional stocks of paracetamol syrup have been ordered, with delivery scheduled for next month.

“Paracetamol formulations remain available in limited quantities across health facilities, with both paracetamol syrup and paracetamol suppositories currently in use. Furthermore, the Ministry has successfully placed an order for 3,000,000 units of paracetamol syrup, which is currently in transit to Namibia. This significant consignment is expected to arrive mid-December 2025 and is projected to provide sufficient stock to cover the national demand for 12 months,” the minister’s Executive Director, Penda Ithindi, said.

He added that to mitigate the impact of the temporary shortages, the Ministry has proactively implemented a series of amelioration measures. These measures, Ithindi explained, include the active redistribution of existing stock within and between regions to ensure that any stagnant supplies are efficiently moved to areas experiencing shortages, thereby optimising the use of available resources. According to him, the Ministry has also empowered regional health facilities with increased budgets to enable the short-term procurement of vital items.

“The Ministry assures the public of its unwavering commitment to ensuring the continued provision of critical health services and supplies across the nation,” Ithindi added.
