Africa-Press – Namibia. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah received a courtesy call from SADC executive secretary Elias Magosi on Tuesday.
Magosi said the purpose of the visit was to brief the Head of State on the state of the region and better understand Namibia’s priorities in strengthening SADC’s mandate.
It also aims to strengthen regional integration, peace, and security among member States.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah stated that Namibia considers SADC an important pillar for economic and political stability, emphasising that the country remains committed to deepening cooperation within the bloc.
“Namibia attaches importance to the work of our organisation, both in the area of regional integration and in the area of peace and security,” she said, welcoming the secretary.
She added that the meeting was an important opportunity to be updated on developments in the region since taking office.
“When I heard you were coming, I said that’s very good. At least I will be updated on what is happening in the region, economically and politically,” she stated.
“My role is to find out the key things you want to see, to make sure the region is stable and integrates as it was founded to integrate,” he said, adding that the Secretariat aims to support and facilitate that process.
He also acknowledged the President’s long-standing experience in regional affairs.
“You are in a new role, and I am not taking it for granted that you know everything about the region. I’m here to brief you and seek counsel,” Magosi noted.
