Africa-Press – Namibia. Five councillors took oath of office at Uis Village Council on Tuesday after 15 years of no political leadership.
The village was downgraded to a settlement in 2010 because it could not sustain itself financially.
The councillors are Annalie Shihepo, Denise Dausas, Laban Hamata, Manuel Taurob, and Karin Matsuis.
Dausas has been elected as the council chairperson and Matsuis as her deputy.
Uis has been upgraded to local authority status due to recent growth in the mining and tourism sectors.
Last year, the former minister of urban and rural development, Erastus Uutoni, inaugurated the Uis settlement office that was constructed at a cost of N$11 million.
