THE Judicial Service Commission has announced that President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, upon recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission, has appointed Martha Olyvia Imalwa to serve as Acting Prosecutor-General for a period of one year, from 1 January to 31 December 2026.

Imalwa was first appointed in 2004 for a 10-year term.

“Imalwa, the incumbent Prosecutor-General, concludes her substantive term on 31 December 2025. The Commission has commenced the recruitment process for the next Prosecutor-General by inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply. Shortlisted candidates will undergo a comprehensive assessment aimed at identifying the most suitable person for recommendation to the State President in accordance with the governing constitutional and statutory framework,” Viktoria Hango, Public Relations Officer within the judiciary, said.

She added that the interim appointment will safeguard stability and the uninterrupted functioning of the Office of the Prosecutor-General as the Commission finalises its recommendation for the substantive appointment.
