Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), Air Marshal Martin Kambulu Pinehas, was recently the recipient of the prestigious Tamandaré Merit Medal, awarded to him by the Brazilian Military Advisory Team (BRAZMAT) during a ceremony in Walvis Bay, which coincided with the commemoration of Brazilian Sailors’ Day.

The day honours Joaquim Marques Lisboa, the first Brazilian-born admiral, symbolising the rich heritage and traditions of the Brazilian Navy.

The event was officiated by Captain Marcelo Abreu Souza, representing the Brazilian Navy Commander, Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen.

Besides Pinehas, two other NDF officers — Navy Captains Davison Mwoombola and Clemens Kashuupulwa — were also awarded the Tamandaré Merit Medal, which is given in recognition of individuals and institutions, both Brazilian and foreign, for their exceptional services in promoting and strengthening the traditions and achievements of the Brazilian Navy.

The medals awarded to Pinehas and the two senior officers of the Namibian Navy highlight the strong ties between the Namibian and Brazilian navies, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in military affairs.

The Brazilian Navy has a team, BRAZMAT, permanently attached to the Namibian Navy.
