Africa-Press – Namibia. The National Housing Enterprise (NHE) is set to construct 100 houses at Eenhana in the Ohangwena region.
The first phase of the project comprises 30 housing units at Ekolola.
The NHE announced this on Monday.
Infrastructure development manager Indileni Set-Sam Iipinge said contractors should focus on completing the project on time, within budget and to acceptable standards.
He said contractors should reinvest in equipment and capacity to remain competitive and contribute to long-term growth in the construction sector.
“Before thinking of luxuries, let us think of quality. Let us think of the workers. Let us think of reinvesting in equipment and capacity so that you are able to compete sustainably for future projects,” Iipinge said.
Eenhana mayor Omri-Onn Kavandje said the project goes beyond housing provision and represents dignity, security and opportunity for families.
“The committee has noted the significant impact the NHE has already made at Eenhana, with close to 400 houses constructed between 1998 and 2015,” he said.
Kavandje said the current development continues the partnership between the Eenhana Town Council and the NHE in addressing the housing backlog at the town and the wider region.
Over 70 houses remain and are yet to be constructed once construction commences.
“We encourage residents to register with the NHE to benefit from the remaining 70 houses, ensuring that more families can access affordable, quality homes,” he said.
