Africa-Press – Namibia. FORMER Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA) member of parliament and Caprivi high treason convict Geoffrey Mwilima has died at the age of 70, just weeks after his release from prison on remission.

Mwilima passed away this morning while receiving treatment at Lady Pohamba Private Hospital in Windhoek. His death came slightly over a month after he was granted remission and released on 24 December 2025.

Mwilima had been in custody since August 1999 following his arrest after surprise attacks by armed separatists on government-linked targets in Katima Mulilo, then part of the Caprivi region. He was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment, with the sentence formally commencing in December 2015. He was released after serving ten years of his 15-year prison sentence.

He was reported to have battled diabetes during his incarceration.
