Africa-Press – Namibia. Health minister Dr Esperance Luvindao handed over 15 000 newly procured uniforms for state medical doctors and nurses across the country.
Earlier this week, Luvindao symbolically handed over the uniforms at an event organised by the ministry at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital.
“This occasion symbolises the ministry’s appreciation and commitment to restoring professional dignity, visibility and pride within the health workforce,” said Luvindao.
The minister said procurement of the uniforms for health workers was initiated in March 2025, and the August 26 Manufacturing Company was selected to manufacture the uniforms at a cost of about N$56 million.
She said the last time nurses and doctors received new uniforms from the government through the Ministry of Health and Social Services was in 2014.
Luvindao explained that the colours of the new uniforms remain the same – medical doctors with white coats and navy blue and white for the nurses, as well as black shoes for both men and women.
Speaking on behalf of the health workers countrywide, a registered nurse at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital, Selma Muhenye, thanked the government for investing in the work attire, saying their uniforms also serve as identification for patients.
“Thank you for the new uniforms. As nurses and doctors, we will wear our new uniforms and contribute towards service delivery to the public with patriotism,” she said.
