Africa-Press – Namibia. CHAIRPERSON of the Sam Nujoma Foundation, Nahas Angula, has conveyed his condolences to the family of the late liberation struggle veteran Erkki Nghimtina, describing his death as a significant loss to both the nation and the Foundation. Nghimtina, who passed away on 8 February 2026, served as a trustee of the Foundation and was hailed for his dedication to Namibia’s liberation and governance.
In a message addressed to Nghimtina’s widow, Meme Ester Ndatala Nghidimbwa, his children and the bereaved family, Angula said he was deeply saddened by the passing of the veteran of the national liberation struggle.
Angula said that Nghimtina was a respected member of the Swapo Party and served as a trustee of the Sam Nujoma Foundation until his death. He said Nghimtina’s passing has significantly affected the Foundation’s leadership and mission, as he was one of the trusted members appointed by Namibia’s Founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma.
“The late Cde Nghimtina, along with his fellow trustees, was entrusted by our Founding President to guide this non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing his vision while preserving his legacy,” Angula said.
He added that as a trustee, Nghimtina contributed valuable knowledge and skills to safeguard the integrity of the Foundation. Angula described him as part of a generation that bore the burdens of the liberation struggle and later took on governance responsibilities without seeking recognition.
Angula said Nghimtina’s life journey reflects the sacrifices made by brave Namibians under Swapo’s banner during the liberation struggle and serves as a reminder to future generations of the heritage built on those sacrifices.
“This is indeed an illustrious legacy established by courageous sons and daughters of Namibia, a treasure that must be honoured by those who follow us,” he said.
While acknowledging that Nghimtina will no longer be physically present, Angula said his life’s work will endure through the people and institutions he served.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Technical Committee of the Sam Nujoma Foundation, Angula extended his deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the widow, children, the entire bereaved family and comrades.
He concluded by expressing hope that Nghimtina’s revolutionary spirit will continue to guide the nation and wished the family strength during their time of bereavement.
“May the soul of Cde Erkki Nghimtina rest in eternal peace,” Angula said.
