Africa-Press – Namibia. The Outjo Project Primary School received items worth N$50 000 from Lüderitz-based Karaku Marine Fishing company last week.
The items include a photocopy machine and 15 reams of copy paper. Handing over the items at Outjo, Karaku Marine director Ignatius Tjipura said companies benefiting from Namibia’s natural resources must return value to the people, especially through education, youth empowerment and community upliftment.
“As beneficiaries of marine resources through national fishing rights, we fully recognise that these resources belong to the people of Namibia,” Tjipura said.
Receiving the donation, acting principal of Outjo Project Primary School, Dolman Kapende, said the school currently operates with a small printer purchased with a government grant, and the new printer will ensure quick distribution of learning material, making learning and teaching more efficient and effective.
Kunene region education inspector Nuuyoma Amutenya, while commending Karaku Marine Fishing for the donation, said the school is still under construction and lacks some necessary resources.
“The school was opened before its intended time, and it is still on its knees. We sincerely thank Karaku Marine for this generous donation.
This donation will ensure quality, effective and efficient delivery of learning materials,” Amutenya said.
He said the school is intended to alleviate the increasing number of learners in Outjo, noting that the Outjo Primary School and Outjo Secondary School had no capacity to accommodate all the learners, hence the establishment of the project primary school.
The Outjo Project Primary School was opened in March last year and accommodates 220 learners from grades one to three.
