Africa-Press – Namibia. The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) secretary general Haitham Ghais says they are keen to intensify cooperation with Namibia.
This is considering Namibia’s oil would be vital in meeting the future demand of consumers around the world.
According to OPEC’s World Oil Output, the global population is set to expand by around 1,5 billion by 2045, and the global economy is set to double its size.
“Out of the 675 million people worldwide still lacking access to electricity, four out of five of them live in sub-Saharan Africa and Namibia will be at the forefront of meeting consumer demand in the coming decade,” says Ghais.
He says that with the global population expected to surge and the economy to double, more people mean more incomes, with the global primary energy demand set to increase by 23%.
“Oil would retain the largest share of the energy mix, with demand going to 116 million dollars a day by the year 2045,” says Ghais.
