Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Roads Authority is reminding all motorists to exercise extreme caution when travelling during this rainy season. According to the meteorological office, the country will have about 15 to 22 rainy days of normal to above normal rainfall during this rainy season.<\/p>\n

Roads Authority (RA) spokesperson Hileni Fillemon particularly mentioned the Grunau to Seeheim road in the \/\/Kharas region. Fillemon urged motorists to refrain from using this road as it no longer forms part of the country’s road network.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe road in question was formally de-proclaimed in 2014, due to annual flooding and the danger its alignment posed to the public. This road is now a farm road. Its only purpose is to provide access to the farmers in the vicinity and no longer forms part of Namibia’s national road network,\u201d said Fillemon.<\/p>\n

The RA spokesperson said after the de-proclamation of the road, the entrance was closed off and all motorists using this route are directed to use the Grunau via Naute dam road to the B4 and the C routes.<\/p>\n

Since the start of the rainy season, motorists were caught in floods on the Aroab to Keetmanshoop road, as well as tourists in the L\u00f6wen River, downstream of the Naute Dam, when the dam’s sluices were opened on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

All drivers and passengers escaped unhurt. \u201cMotorists should plan their trip ahead of time and find out if there are any road closures or floods on their intended routes from any Roads Authority office,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
