Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>ONE of Namibia’s cycling’s stalwarts of the past few decades, Hella Rust, passed away from a brain tumour on Tuesday morning.<\/b><\/p>\n

Rust was involved in the Namibian Cycling Federation (NCF) for many years, and especially made her mark in the development of the sport. In recent years she served on the NCF’s executive committee, in charge of development and coaching, and her efforts helped the NCF to win the development programme of the year award at the Namibia Sport Awards in 2018.<\/p>\n

She also served on the NCF’s junior cycling development fund and was a qualified road race commissaire, which allowed her to officiate at international cycling events. The president of the NCF, Axel Theissen, said it was a sad day for Namibian cycling.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe passing of Hella is very sad news for Namibia’s cycling community. She was involved in cycling for most of her life and made an immense contribution to Namibian cycling in various facets,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour in August last year, but she remained committed to cycling and the last time I saw her in December last year, she was as active and energetic as ever,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u00cft’s a sad day for all of us and she leaves a big gap in Namibia’s cycling community, but her lively personality and positive energy will live on,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
