Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) has disbursed N$1 billion towards the development of a critical national healthcare infrastructure programme, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Namibia\u2019s health system.<\/p>\n

The programme forms part of Government\u2019s \u201cROADMAP\u201d initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Health and Social Services and aligned with the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework to deliver integrated, high-quality healthcare services.<\/p>\n

It sits within a broader national effort to fund priority healthcare infrastructure under the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6), led by the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the National Planning Commission and the Ministry of Health and Social Services.<\/p>\n

In response, DBN undertook to mobilise the required financing to support national healthcare infrastructure. DBN\u2019s N$1 billion funding will be directed towards the construction and core infrastructure of the Windhoek District Hospital, a 500-bed Class C facility aimed at addressing critical bed shortages in the Khomas Region, easing pressure on existing referral hospitals, and supporting the development of Nkurenkuru, Otjiwarongo, and Ondangwa District Hospitals.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the development, DBN\u2019s Chief Executive Officer, Titus Ndove, highlighted the strategic importance of the transaction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis investment demonstrates the power of coordinated financing by the Ministry of Finance in addressing national priorities while ensuring a holistic approach to healthcare delivery that will have a lasting impact on our communities,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Beyond improving access to healthcare, the project is expected to stimulate economic activity through construction, local procurement, and job creation, while also enabling DBN to optimise its balance sheet through the deployment of necessary capital into high-quality, development-oriented assets.<\/p>\n
