NAMIBIA resumed its campaign in the ICC Men\u2019s Cricket World Cup League 2, hosting Scotland and Oman in a crucial tri-series as the Eagles aim to secure a top-four finish and qualify automatically for the 2027 ICC Men\u2019s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. Currently sixth in the League 2 standings, Namibia sits five points outside the automatic qualifying spots, making home performances against Oman and Scotland vital.<\/p>\n

All-rounder JJ Smit has taken over as captain from Gerhard Erasmus, leading a squad that includes potential ODI debutants Zacheo van Vuuren and William Lottering, as well as 18-year-old pacer Max Heingo, who made his T20I debut in late 2025. Scotland could move to the top of the League 2 table with a strong showing, while Oman looks to strengthen its position above the bottom four teams with four matches in hand over Canada and Namibia.<\/p>\n

On 4 April, Namibia faced Oman in the second ODI of the series at Wanderers Cricket Ground, Windhoek. Batting first, the Eagles posted a competitive 268\/7. Erasmus led the innings with 54 off 55 balls, supported by WP Myburgh\u2019s 43 and Zane Green\u2019s 42, while Dylan Leicher contributed 30. Max Heingo made an impressive ODI debut, taking three wickets. The match went down to the final over, with Oman needing just one run from six balls. A boundary off the first delivery sealed a 3-wicket victory for Oman.<\/p>\n

In the third fixture on 6 April against Scotland, Namibia batted first and reached 189\/8 in 46.4 overs. Louren Steenkamp top-scored with a composed 78 off 99 balls, while Zane Green added 62. Rain curtailed the innings, with the revised target set at 194 runs from 43 overs. Despite efforts to resume play, the match was eventually abandoned due to persistent rain.<\/p>\n

Next matches in the tri-series are Scotland versus Oman on 8 April, Namibia versus Oman on 10 April, and Namibia versus Scotland on 12 April, all at the Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek. The Eagles will be hoping to bounce back and strengthen their bid for a top-four finish in the League 2 standings.<\/p>\n
