{"id":100821,"date":"2026-04-14T14:17:43","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T14:17:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/namra-collects-n500-million-and-recovers-n622-million"},"modified":"2026-04-14T15:11:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T15:11:38","slug":"namra-collects-n500-million-and-recovers-n622-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/namra-collects-n500-million-and-recovers-n622-million","title":{"rendered":"Namra Collects N$500 Million and Recovers N$622 Million"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span><b>The Namibia Revenue Agency (Namra) collected N$500 million within three months through a targeted compliance drive and recovered a further N$622 million through legal action against non-compliant taxpayers.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Namra commissioner Sam Shivute says the agency handled 15 legal cases valued at approximately N$622 million, winning 14 of them, reflecting a strong enforcement record.<\/p>\n<p>The collections form part of Namra\u2019s broader push to improve tax compliance and strengthen revenue mobilisation.<\/p>\n<p>Shivute says the agency has also made progress in combating fraud, particularly in value-added tax, where N$171 million was recovered from fraudulent activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese outcomes demonstrate our commitment to enforcing compliance and protecting the integrity of the tax system,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>The N$500 million was collected during a focused initiative referred to as \u201cinjury time\u201d, aimed at accelerating outstanding payments and boosting revenue performance.<\/p>\n<p>The enforcement measures come as Namra works towards its revised revenue target of N$88 billion, contributing to the funding of Namibia\u2019s roughly N$100-billion national budget.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond tax enforcement, the agency also reported progress in tackling illicit activities linked to revenue losses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA total of 43 drug-related cases were intercepted, with an estimated value of N$67 million, highlighting the agency\u2019s role in border enforcement and customs control,\u201d Shivute says.<\/p>\n<p>He says Namra\u2019s approach combines enforcement with taxpayer engagement to improve compliance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are firm but fair.
