Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Hyphen Hydrogen Energy plans to spend N$54 billion on procurement from local Namibian businesses over the course of the company\u2019s project in Namibia.<\/b><\/p>\n

This is almost the country\u2019s total reserve amount.<\/p>\n

Speaking at an enterprise and supplier development programme launch this week, senior manager Johannes Shipepe said the project is targeting 30% local procurement.<\/p>\n

To be able to do this, he said Hyphen, in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft fu\u0308r Internationale Zusammenarbeit, launched a programme to help build Namibian businesses\u2019 capacity and to help them compete in the sector.<\/p>\n

The initiative is backed by grant funding of up to 300 000 euros (about N$5.8 million) from the International Hydrogen Ramp-up Programme, matched by Hyphen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe objective is to ensure Namibian companies are not limited to basic services, but are able to compete for more specialised opportunities across the value chain,\u201d Shipepe said.<\/p>\n

He said the programme will focus on four pillars: improving tendering skills, compliance and certification, access finance, and partnerships.<\/p>\n
