{"id":101411,"date":"2026-04-26T13:33:31","date_gmt":"2026-04-26T13:33:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/president-honors-humble-and-patriotic-tjitendero"},"modified":"2026-04-26T14:09:41","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T14:09:41","slug":"president-honors-humble-and-patriotic-tjitendero","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/president-honors-humble-and-patriotic-tjitendero","title":{"rendered":"President Honors Humble and Patriotic Tjitendero"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span><b>President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has described Namibia\u2019s first National Assembly speaker, Mose\u0301 Tjitendero, as a humble patriot, educator, freedom fighter and nation-builder.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Nandi-Ndaitwah made these remarks on Sunday during the 20th anniversary commemoration of Tjitendero\u2019s death at Heroes\u2019 Acre.<\/p>\n<p>The president recalled the moment she learned of his death on 26 April 2006, saying it remains one of the most difficult days of her life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was one of my most difficult days to see him lying silently on his hospital bed at the Roman Catholic Hospital and never wake up again,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She added that the Tjitendero family entrusted her with the responsibility of serving as director of ceremonies at his funeral.<\/p>\n<p>Nandi-Ndaitwah described Tjitendero as \u201ca giant of a man\u201d who did not demand respect but earned it, particularly during the formative years of Namibia\u2019s parliament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was one who earned respect quietly in a parliament that was diverse and newly established at the time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The president said Tjitendero\u2019s humility, wisdom and calm demeanour earned him respect across political divides.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn an era that could easily have been defined by discord, he chose dialogue. In moments that demanded strength, he showed restraint.
