Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE few drops that fell in Swakopmund on Monday evening slightly increased on Tuesday evening and finally, on Wednesday around 20:15, the skies opened over the Namib desert with rain pouring down until about 21:30.<\/p>\n

Especially the salty streets were a mess on Thursday with motorists either putting foot to the pedal creating water sprays through puddles or skidding through the mud.<\/p>\n

Early morning, Gershon Tjongarero and Stefanus Shiehama were \u201cbuilding a dam wall\u201d in Makriel Street in the Vineta neighbourhood to avoid rivers of water streaming into yards.<\/p>\n

Many residents of Mondesa had to move out of their ghettos and shacks because of leaking roofs and other structures, seeking refuge with friends and family on drier ground.<\/p>\n

Mondesa resident Patrick Mayira, originally from Rundu, was one of the fortunate spared from water damage. \u201cThis Swakop weather is not quite Rundu weather,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

It also rained in Henties Bay and Walvis Bay on Wednesday. Vogelfederberg recorded 8,2 mm of rain and Wlotzkasbaken, approximately halfway between Swakopmund and Henties Bay, recorded 6,7 mm.<\/p>\n

The gift of water was not limited to Erongo. According to the Namibia Meteorological Service\u2019s latest rainfall figures, many of the country\u2019s regions experienced good rainfall.<\/p>\n

In the Khomas region, Windhoek\u2019s National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) recorded 32,3 mm of rain, Windhoek Headquarters 18,8 mm, while Okahandja received 10,8 mm and Claratal Farm, situated 42 km southwest of the capital, recorded 31,9 mm.<\/p>\n

In the Oshana region, Ondangwa recorded 29 mm, and Okaukuejo, located 17 km from the southern entrance of the Etosha National Park, received 2,6 mm. Omaheke\u2019s capital, Gobabis, recorded 12 mm of rain and Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa region saw 22,6 mm.<\/p>\n

Coastal Met recorded 5,4 mm of rain and Gondwana\u2019s Diep River Namib Desert Lodge, located 60 km north of Sesriem in the Hardap region, saw 5,2 mm of rainfall.<\/p>\n

In the Kunene region, Outjo recorded 7,6mm and the region\u2019s automated weather station, Mopanie Pos, recorded 4,6 mm. In addition, the automated weather station in the Namib Desert, Marble Koppie, recorded 16,1 mm.<\/p>\n

Good rainfall was also reported in Tsumeb. According to Maria Davids, this led to flooded streets and \u201cpeople searching for new paths to avoid walking through puddles\u201d.<\/p>\n
