Africa-Press<\/a> – Namibia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE Namibian Ports Authority in support of the ongoing national vaccination drive, partnered with the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) to bring vaccinations closer to the staff, family members and the Port community.<\/p>\n

The vaccination drive took place at the Port Authority\u2019s Clinic on 09 August 2021, and due to the high interest, the MoHSS returned for another drive on 17 August 2021.<\/p>\n

Namport\u2019s Nurse, Hedwig Hijamutiti recently completed training in administering vaccines against COVID-19 which is in line with the port authority\u2019s human resource capacity building strategy.<\/p>\n

According to Elias Mwenyo, the Acting Executive: Commercial Services, vaccination is voluntary but at the same time, Namport continues to encourage its workforce to get vaccinated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis not only protects them, but it protects the community which in turn contributes positively to the ongoing efforts of the government to curb the further spread of COVID-19,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

With the Ports Authority\u2019s core values of being connected and caring, the entity thought it beneficial to bring the vaccination drive to its staff members.<\/p>\n

Mwenyo said that the presence of Namport as an entity has been felt through the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic as the company has without fail continued its unwavering financial support towards the government\u2019s efforts in curbing the spread of the disease.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020, Namport has invested more than N$1.5 million in the health, safety fraternity and at the temporary truck port. The entity\u2019s latest donation was the four reefer containers it sponsored to the Ministry of Health and Social Services. The need for the reefers came about as the country\u2019s health system was placed under immense pressure during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The containers were dispersed to various regions within the country and will be used as complementary mortuaries. According to Mwenyo, Namport staff were each treated to care hampers as well as shopping vouchers to purchase immune boosters and cleaning materials for their households at the start of the pandemic.<\/p>\n
