Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>MOBILE Telecommunications Company (MTC), as part of their commitment to low-cost housing countrywide, through the Shack Dwellers Federation has built 271 houses, with 75% handed to women.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was announced in a media statement on Tuesday by the company’s spokesperson Tim Ekandjo. Ekandjo said the majority of the houses were awarded to low-income earning women in order to break the archaic patriarchal status-quo of land ownership.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 271 houses have been completed and handed over to the recipients in eight regions. The houses were built in various towns across Namibia depending on the availability of land.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ekandjo said as the most admired brand, MTC aims to transform the lives of all Namibians in all aspects. He added that 62 houses were allocated at Otjozondjupa, 15 at Okahandja, 20 at Grootfontein, 10 at Okakarara and 17 at Kalkfeld.<\/p>\n

\u201cOhangwena 52 (Eenhana 22 and Okongo 30) and Oshana 41 (Oshakati 19 and Ondangwa 22).<\/p>\n

\u201cOshana 41 (Oshakati 19 and Ondangwa 22), Kavango West 33 (Rupara 25 and Kahenge-Nkurenkuru 8),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Ekandjo said that the Zambezi region was allocated 30 houses (Kongola 30), and the Hardap region 25 houses (Aranos 21 and Stampriet 4). \u201cErongo region 20 (Omaruru 20) and the Omusati region 8 houses (Okahao),\u201d he said<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are extremely happy to have finalised this project and stay true to the commitment we made in 2017,\u201d Ekandjo. He added that the last two years caused considerable delays in the project due to Covid-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are proud of the Shack Dwellers Federation and its leadership for being committed to providing low cost houses to so many Namibians.
