Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>IN DECEMBER last year, I attended a Youth Forum with the Presidency, which provided a platform for the youth to engage with the Presidency, through dialogue-like queries.<\/p>\n

The writer formulated his discussion ahead of the forum. Unfortunately, he was not among those selected from the narrow sample asked to present their queries. The missed discussion centred on a triple helix analysis. Triple helix is a linkage of three major domains in an economy \u2013 academia, government, and industry. It embraces the search for tight and visible linkages between the three domains.<\/p>\n

The writer realises there is a need to enhance existing ties between academia, industry and the government. And enhancing the triple helix factor can have a profound effect on realising the economic advantages enshrined in the model.<\/p>\n

A tightly linked triple helix model is a technique to help solve unemployment involving the efficient sharing of data between the three domains. This is only possible through an indepth analysis of industry linkage between academia and the government.<\/p>\n

The major role of academia is to produce skilled individuals. The industry’s role largely lies in employing skilled individuals from academia. The government, on the other hand, legally administers the economy to enable industry and academia to spur on the process. CORE DATA<\/p>\n

The writer proposes an honest sharing of accurate data and statistics within the triple helix model. Data should be prepared and made available accordingly. Similarly, with the law of supply and demand. Accurate statistics from industry should indicate the industries and fields with the most capacity for employment, currently and in the future.<\/p>\n

Data from industries should be shared with academia. This will allow academic institutions to direct student intake in terms of industries where employment is readily available. At present, universities face an excessive intake in terms of already saturated industries. The government needs to follow suit and come up with suitable policies for promising industries.<\/p>\n

The triple helix model gets to grips with core unemployment issues. In Nigeria, a study by Adelabu, Ifeoma and Immanuel revealed that the triple helix model establishes a working relationship between the government, industry,and university to solve diverse issues of human endeavours.<\/p>\n

The triple helix model acted as a spur in creating employment in Nigeria’s agricultural sector \u2013 through the successful collaboration between the government, industry, and universities. Triple helix reduces unemployment through adopting accurate data and statistics sharing.<\/p>\n
