{"id":10498,"date":"2022-01-25T16:02:49","date_gmt":"2022-01-25T16:02:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/the-white-line-vies-for-oscar"},"modified":"2022-01-25T17:12:42","modified_gmt":"2022-01-25T17:12:42","slug":"the-white-line-vies-for-oscar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/the-white-line-vies-for-oscar","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The White Line&#8217; vies for Oscar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span><b>NAMIBIAN filmmakers and producers of the country&#8217;s number one film, &#8216;The White Line&#8217;, will be rubbing shoulders with the cr\u00e8me de la cr\u00e8me of movies in this year&#8217;s Academy Awards.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Currently, the film is running against heavyweight movies such as &#8216;The Addams Family 2&#8217;, &#8216;The Matrix Resurrection&#8217;, &#8216;Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain&#8217;, and &#8216;The Harder They Fall&#8217; for best picture.<\/p>\n<p>The dramatic film, which tells the story of a forbidden love affair at the height of apartheid, is one of 276 feature films in the running for an Oscar.<\/p>\n<p>Movie director Desiree Kahikapo-Meifret says they did not submit the film in the international category, but only in the general category for best picture, best actress, and best director, among others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn 8 February they will announce the films nominated in the various categories. We are not in the category international films usually submit in, which is what everybody thinks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To get to this level of recognition, the &#8216;White Line&#8217; had to run screenings in at least six of the United States metropolitans, as well as meet a number of requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The Academy Awards will take place in March this year.
