Rehoboth-based horseracing club, Naris Turf Club, will this weekend host the much-anticipated Tobie van Wyk Race Day competition.<\/p>\n

This will once again see the country\u2019s top racehorses battling it out for supremacy.<\/p>\n

The event, which is set for Saturday in Rehoboth, will be hosted in collaboration with the Namibia Horse Racing Association (NHRA) and will mark the club\u2019s second event for this year.<\/p>\n

Their first race for the year was staged at Okahandja earlier this month, and saw jockeys and horses breaking sweat in thrilling fashion.<\/p>\n

Speaking to New Era Sport yesterday, Naris Turf Club chairperson Eamon Freygang said the race will consist of 12 categories and they are expecting over 40 horses.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are expecting a good turnout. We will have horses coming from Okahandja, Keetmanshoop, Otjinene and other places,\u201d said Freygang.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also have two horses from Johannesburg and one from Cape Town. These horses are expected to bring tough competition to the track which will be good for the race. They have already arrived in the country and we are just waiting for Saturday,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cFrom an organiser\u2019s standpoint, I can assure all horse racing fans that everything is set for Saturday and we are looking forward to hosting this exciting event. I am sure most of the horse owners are looking forward to take part\u201d.<\/p>\n

Freygang, however, said they will enforce the current Covid-19 protocols, such as the wearing of masks and strict sanitising of hands; among other health protocols.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will follow the Covid-19 protocols, which means only 200 people will be allowed at the venue.\u201d<\/p>\n
