Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>RAKKEL Ndeutala says her lack of knowledge about computers when she was growing up inspired her to start an organisation that teaches underprivileged children.<\/b><\/p>\n

Ndeutala founded Veutile Education Consultancy in 2019 in the Tobias Hainyeko Constituency in Windhoek. \u201cOur classes started way back in Havana in 2019, when I started teaching my niece on one laptop and she started inviting her friends and I would teach them also. When we share knowledge and creativity, we can build a more equitable, accessible and innovative world,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

Ndeutala says when she started tertiary education, she did not know how to use a computer, which made her life miserable. \u201cAt the beginning, I would hand in my assignments late because I could not type or edit documents as fast as others would,\u201d she says. This forced her to take extra computer classes and she fell in love with the subject.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was discovering the world. It made my life easier and that marked the beginning of my journey,\u201d she says. Ndeutala says Veutile Education Consultancy has been giving free computer classes to underprivileged children from grade 7 to 10.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have registered 478 children and more are approaching the centre. Underprivileged children are always lagging behind in the technology-driven world and we have taken this initiative to equip them for a better tomorrow,\u201d she says. Ndeutala says with the increasing number of children interested in doing computer classes, challenges arise when resources are not enough.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are targeting to register about 100 000 children countrywide in the near future,\u201d she says, adding that this can only be possible if the centre gets enough resources from well-wishers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have nine hardworking volunteers who help the children. Since the number of children needing the service keeps going up, we will need more volunteers and computers,\u201d Ndeutala says.<\/p>\n
