Africa-Press<\/a> – Namibia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>AS Namibia celebrates Heroes’ Day on Thursday (26 August), communities around the country will also be celebrating the people who have put the needs of others before theirs.<\/b><\/p>\n

Anna Ida Mugunda from Mariental has dedicated part of her pension grant towards feeding vulnerable children in the town. “One thing I dislike in life and what brings tears to my soul is seeing children roaming the streets on a hungry stomach,” said Mugunda.<\/p>\n

She worked for the ministry of Agriculture and retired in 2018. Her care for the children of her community stems from her days as a Sunday school teacher where she used to prepare food packets for her pupils.<\/p>\n

Mungunga set up a soup kitchen early this month, after visiting the Donga informal settlement where she found many hungry children roaming the street.<\/p>\n

She then decided to use some of her pension to buy soup, bread and meat for the children. The feeding scheme started with 10 Children but now she feeds 18 children who get two meals a day on Tuesdays and Fridays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
