{"id":12608,"date":"2022-02-20T15:53:59","date_gmt":"2022-02-20T15:53:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/rainfall-decreases-but-road-users-should-remain-cautious"},"modified":"2022-02-20T16:50:43","modified_gmt":"2022-02-20T16:50:43","slug":"rainfall-decreases-but-road-users-should-remain-cautious","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/rainfall-decreases-but-road-users-should-remain-cautious","title":{"rendered":"Rainfall decreases but road users should remain cautious"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Opuwo Town Council issued a warning to motorists to drive carefully in and out of town, while the road to Sesfontein has been heavily affected by rain.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a notable reduction in the heavy rainfall that the country has received over the last few weeks, people should not take unnecessary risks and road users should remain alert when travelling in flooded areas where roads were damaged.<\/p>\n<p>NamWater encouraged the activation of flood contingency plans for places close to flood-prone areas, such as areas near the Eastern Zambezi floodplains, Kuiseb catchment, the Cuvelai System and Lower Orange, Kunene River and the town of Mariental.<\/p>\n<p>Dam operators are also advised to remain vigilant and to upscale flood mitigation. NamWater advised dam operators to issue early warnings to communities nearby the country\u2019s major dams that received significant inflow.<\/p>\n<p>The Hardap Dam stood at 71,7%, the Naute Dam at 104,1%, the Neckartal Dam at 102,8% and the Swakoppoort Dam at 97% on Friday. The Kunene region, which received consistent heavy rainfall over the last few weeks, did not receive much over the last day.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, Sesfontein still recorded the highest rainfall of 25,3 mm of rain on Friday morning. However, this is a significant reduction from the 42,6 mm the town recorded the previous day. Furthermore, Khorixas, which recorded 31,9 mm of rain on Thursday, only recorded 0,2 mm of rain on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the reduction in rainfall, the effects still prevail and many are still enjoying the fun that came with the heavy rains.
