Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Tsumeb leadership and Dundee Precious Metals (DPM) have entered into a three-year investment agreement valued at N$3 million to uplift livelihoods in the town and assist youths.<\/p>\n

This is in line with government\u2019s focus on youth-centred entrepreneurship as set out in the National Budget that was tabled on Thursday. Town Mayor Mathews Hangula said the investment will meet government halfway and at the same time address the dependency syndrome suffered by many youths.<\/p>\n

The agreement is set to benefit the vulnerable members of the community, with the initial focus on agricultural projects. However, this does not exclude other projects that address sustainable livelihoods within the community.<\/p>\n

Hangula said the investment will address unemployment, poverty and social issues, and will lead to a decrease in criminal activities in the town as people will be busy.<\/p>\n

The investment will also boost the town\u2019s economy. \u201cWith us being an agricultural town, we will be able to reclaim our position for striving to address food security and produce more,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Chief Executive Officer of DPM Zebra Kasete said the company believes in sustainability. Hence they aim at being a long-term sustainable operator that generates value for their stakeholders.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is absolutely necessary because creating value for our stakeholders is central to our license to operate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kasete said their community investments are aligned with the national plans and the United Nations\u2019 Sustainable Developmen Goals (SDGs) to create shared value between the company, the community and the government.<\/p>\n

From an investment perspective, Kasete stated that they will continue to demonstrate their commitment towards building and supporting their beautiful town, to revitalize and enrich the community in which they operate.<\/p>\n
