Khomas governor Laura McLeod-Katjirua handed over donations of cleaning and medical equipment, wheelchairs and school uniforms to various schools and community projects in Windhoek last Friday.<\/p>\n

The goods, which were donated by the office of the governor, the Chinese Jiangsu province and various organisations, benefited seven projects and individuals. These included school uniforms, a housing project, wheelchairs as well as cleaning and medical equipment.<\/p>\n

The Chinese Jiangsu province donated various anti-pandemic equipment and supplies, which the governor handed over to the regional director of health. This donation consisted of 10 000 face masks, 3 000 protective suits, 100 oxygen tanks, 30 oxygen generators, 1 000 goggles and 800 face shields. At the official handover, the governor said \u201cthe donation came at the right time and will be put to good use for the benefit of our Khomas community and of course, the region at large.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Connect Africa Education Project, a digital platform for the visually and hearing impaired, also benefited from the donation. Also speaking at the ceremony, project coordinator Ndapewa Teressius expressed gratitude for the donation they received. She noted that the donation is not only benefitting her as a visually impaired person, but will also help both visually and hearing impaired as well as many other Namibians with different disabilities to improve their lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour help will contribute with the employment opportunity of our project because our target is to employ 70% of people with different disabilities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The donations benefited 300 learners from the 10 constituencies in the region, a Khomasdal Youth Cleaning Project, a massage therapy women\u2019s project as well as a shack fire victim.<\/p>\n

A nine-year-old girl, Tjipenohange Mbaroro, who has cerebral palsy, also received a special wheelchair after her parents had asked for assistance from the governor\u2019s office earlier this year.<\/p>\n
