{"id":13770,"date":"2022-03-02T17:08:39","date_gmt":"2022-03-02T17:08:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/corporates-unite-for-common-cause"},"modified":"2022-03-02T18:21:04","modified_gmt":"2022-03-02T18:21:04","slug":"corporates-unite-for-common-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/corporates-unite-for-common-cause","title":{"rendered":"Corporates unite for common cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span><b>SIX Namibian corporates yesterday announced their support for MTC&#8217;s &#8216;We Race Together&#8217; social responsibility initiative, which will see more than 100 Namibian personalities competing in a relay event at the Independence Stadium on 23 April.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Erasmus Nekundi of MTC said that Shoprite, Namib Mills, Erongo Marine Enterprise, Bipa (Business and Intellectual Property Authority), Namport, and Namibia Airport Company have joined the initiative which aims to raise funds for charitable causes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese companies have joined hands to demonstrate a culture of working together in addressing common social issues in society, for it is through unity that meaningful and positive social change is achieved to ameliorate the lives of the Namibian men and women,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Namib Mills, Shoprite, and MTC registered their participation with an amount of N$120 000 each, while Erongo Marine Enterprise pledged N$90 000, and BIPA, Namibia Airport Company and Namport N$30 000 each.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe innovative &#8216;We Race Together&#8217; initiative under the annual MTC Knockout Project umbrella is driven towards nation-building, and to inculcate a culture of unity, while raising funds for a yet to be announced charity cause,\u201d Nekundi said.<\/p>\n<p>MTC&#8217;s chief human capital and corporate affairs officer, Tim Ekandjo, thanked all the corporates that came on board, and challenged more to register their participation in the project with a fee on N$30 000 per participant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe practice of operating in silos and solely focusing on the bottom-line of accumulating profit, while ignoring pertinent social issues that affect the people \u2013 who support our businesses \u2013 is ancient, and falls short of best corporate practices.<\/p>\n<p>The time is ripe that we come together to address some of these shared common social problems,\u201d he said. \u201cWe therefore would like to thank the corporates that have joined us on the We Race Together project thus far, and call on more to do so.<\/p>\n<p>We have reached out to a number of companies and individuals, and will continue to invite more to register their participation, for we believe that more is always merrier,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The project aims to bring together more than 140 personalities from across Namibia and from all walks of life, to race in a 4&#215;100 metre relay at Windhoek&#8217;s Independence Stadium on the 23rd of April.
