Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Security Association of Namibia (SAN) has chastised the Ministry of Labour for not taking action against security companies who do not comply with the minimum wage of security guards as per the Labour Act.<\/p>\n

In his opening statement at SAN\u2019s 29th Annual General Meeting in Windhoek, outgoing president Hans Miljo said: \u201cSAN will continue to advocate and ensure total compliance in the security industry.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said there has been no prosecution instituted by the line ministry in response to countless security companies that have not been and still are not compliant with the minimum wage as per the provision of the Labour Act 23, 1998.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis shortfall has serious hallmarks that tell us that the Ministry of Labour, through its inspectors, does not prioritize the need to have the industry regulated,\u201d Miljo said.<\/p>\n

In response, guest speaker and Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Dr. Daniel Kashikola, said the neglect the industry faces is an issue SAN needs to address including the arbitration issue where compliance is not met.<\/p>\n

The association said apart from the line ministry, it continuously engages with trade unions as important stakeholders in the industry and members of the National Bargaining Council for the Private Security Sector (NBCPSS) that hosts a wide range of powers.<\/p>\n

The SAN council for 2022 to 2024 consists of Dawid Nuuyoma (president), Dhiginina Uutaapama (vice president), Corinus Kotze (vice president), Onesmus Hanhapo (treasurer), Seriane Mukuta, Carona Viljoen, Absalom Tobias, Bartholomeus Koopman, Advocate Matomola and Fanie Horn.<\/p>\n
