Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>OTJOZONDJUPA Regional Governor James Uerikua officially distributed 21 wheelchairs to the seven constituencies of the region. The wheelchairs were donated by the Rani Group of companies through the office of the Governor of Oshana last year as part of their social responsibilities.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the official handover recently, Uerikua said government remains committed to addressing the needs of all the people in the country through the creation of the Department Of Disability Affairs, to specifically deal with issues pertaining to people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

In April last year, Uerikua met with a group of people with disabilities in Otjozondjupa to discuss issues affecting them and paved the way forward on how they can mainstream their needs into policy and decision-making processes at a regional level.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lives of Namibians with disability have considerably become difficult due to a lack of adequate wheelchairs, as well as restricted access to facilities,\u201d he said, adding that these challenges limit them from reaching their full potential.<\/p>\n

Uerikua said challenges faced by people living with disabilities need to be addressed to maintain their dignity and well-being as fellow human beings.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is for this reason that the Rani Group of companies through their social corporate responsibility availed funds for the purchasing of 350 wheelchairs donated to all 14 regions equally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Uerikua said the donation will promote the understanding of the special needs of people with disabilities so that more stakeholders can help them fulfil their potential.<\/p>\n
