Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>DURING a courtesy call on President Hage Geingob, the Governor of the Bank of Namibia (BoN), Johannes !Gawaxab, outlined the Bank\u2019s plan to restore economic growth in the country.<\/p>\n

According to the governor, 80% of the Bank\u2019s core mandate will focus on providing and maintaining financial stability, while 20% will be directed towards using the Bank\u2019s research capabilities for the development of the country.<\/p>\n

The governor stated that the Bank has already started with extensive research in the Kavango East and West regions. He further stated that they also engaged with the region\u2019s governors with regards to how to better utilise the region\u2019s land and water resources.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have done a very extensive study in the two Kavango regions about how we can leverage the endowments in that region,\u201d the governor explained.<\/p>\n

According to !Gawaxab, the Bank also conducted extensive research on the Naute and Neckartal Dam last year. In his opinion, the utilisation of the Naute Dam is suboptimal, while the Neckartal Dam is not being utilised at all.<\/p>\n

Taking all of this into account, the governor recommended a one-day conference to discuss the further development of the Naute and Neckartal dams. Furthermore, he stated that the conference will also serve to align the different plans of the different parties regarding the development of the two dams.<\/p>\n

!Gawaxab also stated that the one-day conference should be followed up with a mini-investment conference to encourage investments. He stated that this conference should not only target government and financial institutions, but also people from overseas.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, it will involve a combination of local people that take land and do what they have to do, but we also need to get in people who can provide jobs for our people, that can provide housing to our people and that can export for our people,\u201d !Gawaxab added.<\/p>\n

President Hage Geingob agreed with the plans that were presented in the reports stating that the plans represent a \u201cgolden opportunity\u201d to further develop the country for future generations. Nonetheless, he emphasised the need for proper consultations to ensure that all stakeholders have a common understanding and objective.<\/p>\n
