Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>IRELAND Wolves levelled the T20 series with a comfortable 32-run victory against Namibia A at the Wanderers field yesterday.<\/b><\/p>\n

After being sent in to bat, Ireland Wolves amassed 173 for four wickets off their 20 overs, before restricting Namibia A to 141\/6 to complete a comprehensive victory.<\/p>\n

In the first T20 on Monday, Ireland’s batting was a bit suspect as the whole team was dismissed for only 90, but yesterday most of their top order batsmen got amongst the runs.<\/p>\n

Jeremy Lawlor was dismissed early by Ben Shikongo for nine runs, but Murray Commins and Stephen Doheny took the total to 52 off nine overs, before the latter was dismissed by Nicol Loftie-Eaton for 23.<\/p>\n

Commins and Shane Getkate added 49 runs for the fourth wicket before Commins was bowled by Dylan Leicher for 37, while Getkate went on to score 54 off 34 balls (6×4, 1×6) before becoming another Shikongo victim.<\/p>\n

Their innings finished with a flourish as Neil Rock scored 25 not out off 15 balls, and Curtis Campher with 16 not out off only four balls to take the total to 173.<\/p>\n

For Namibia A, Shikongo took 2\/41, Leicher 1\/21 and Loftie-Eaton 1\/22.<\/p>\n

Namibia’s innings got off to a hesitant start as Lohan Louwrens (11), JC Balt (6) and Loftie-Eaton (13) were all dismissed with only 31 runs on the board after eight overs.<\/p>\n

Captain JJ Smit, however, joined Shaun Fouche and took on the challenge with a great knock. They put on a fourth wicket partnership of 70 runs at 10 an over, of which Smit contributed 46 off only 25 balls (3×4, 4×6).<\/p>\n

His dismissal, however, (caught on the boundary off Campher’s bowling) brought an end to Namibia’s challenge as they dropped behind the asking run rate.<\/p>\n

Fouche was run out for 31 off 25 balls (1×4, 2×6), while Karl Birkenstock added 11 not out, as Namibia reached 141\/6, still 32 runs behind.<\/p>\n

The result means that the two sides are now tied at one-all in the T20 series, with the final match due to be played today.<\/p>\n

Namibian coach Pierre de Bruyn said it was all about gaining experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur focus is still to give young players opportunities at these intense levels, so for me it’s about gaining experience and to measure ourselves against a full member’s A team,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the only way to determine how healthy your pathway is and if you look at the likes of JC Balt, Lohan Louwrens and Dylan Leicher, these guys are our next players in line so we’ve got to look at our system to see if the right resources are around these players so that they can reach this level quicker,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’ve got one T20 left tomorrow and we are looking forward to that, but it’s another opportunity for these young players. Then there are five 50-over matches, which are much longer, so it will be interesting to see how much patience these young players have,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ireland A’s opening batsman, Murray Commins said his game plan paid off.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pitch was a bit on the slow side today, and I struggled a bit to get in, but just getting the other guys on strike and allowing them to play freely was my game plan today, so I’m glad it paid off.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was nice to level the series – it just makes for an exciting game tomorrow and hopefully we can come out on the winning side,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Commins is one of several South African-born players in the side (his father John played for South Africa) and told The Namibian how his links with Ireland developed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2018 I played a club game in Ireland and scored a hundred and from then on I just continued. I spent three and a bit years there and I’ve now qualified to play for Ireland, so my future is over there and I’m looking forward to it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m loving life in Ireland, my girlfriend’s moved over with me, so we’ve set up our lives there and its awesome, so hopefully it will continue to be a success,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
