Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>RESIDENTS of Oshakati’s townships say they have had enough of muddy potholes damaging their vehicles.<\/b><\/p>\n

Residents of Kandjengedhi, Oneshila, Evuluko and Enokelo this week expressed their frustration with the potholes that have been plaguing them for years. They are demanding that the Oshakati Town Council take their concerns seriously.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been complaining about the same issue for years. New leaders come and go at the council and nothing ever changes. Why do they think we vote them into power?<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is of serious concern. Our vehicles are damaged, and we constantly have to wash them due to the mud,\u201d Oneshila resident Fillemon Shooya says.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany people use these roads, but the town council turns a blind eye to it. If we speak out, we are complaining too much, but if we keep quiet, nothing changes,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Ephraim Ndalipo of Enokelo says: \u201cWhen it rains the whole place becomes a mess. One never really knows how to sway one’s vehicle to avoid driving through the potholes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has become pointless to contact the authorities. These people come into office and move to the suburbs, and then they don’t look back at us who live in the settlements,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Oshakati mayor Leonard Hango acknowledges that most roads in the mentioned communities are indeed in a poor condition. He says the town council has, however, already commenced with work on the roads, with some being completed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe council is busy grading the gravel roads at Enokelo. We have already completed grading the roads at Okandjendghi South and North, as well as Evululuko West.<\/p>\n

\u201cOneshila is not done yet, but the council has worked to improve other areas by upgrading the roads to make it easier for residents to walk and drive.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople must just bear with us as we only have one grader,\u201d Hango says.<\/p>\n
