Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>On Wednesday, 23 March 2022, Bank Windhoek\u2019s Executive Officer of Marketing and Corporate Communication Services, Jacqueline Pack, announced that the Bank had pledged an additional N$ 300 000 toward the Bank Windhoek Indoor Hockey League. Pack delivered the news at a press conference hosted at Wanderer\u2019s Sport\u2019s Grounds in Windhoek, signaling the official start of the Bank Windhoek Indoor Hockey League.<\/p>\n

Pack said that Bank Windhoek is not new to hockey and that it has committed to the sport since 2015, with a financial investment of almost N$ 1.4 million. \u201cWe believe in the transformative power of team sport. We believe in the impact it makes in the lives of ordinary Namibians. As a truly 100 percent Namibian company and a responsible corporate citizen, we recognize that our country is better because Bank Windhoek is here,\u201d she said. \u201cNot only are we a proud sponsor of hockey, but we are also proud ambassadors of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

As connectors of positive change and a proud member of Capricorn Group, Pack added that Bank Windhoek stands firm in the belief that hockey has the potential to foster a healthy community and a healthy society.<\/p>\n

In his acceptance remarks, the Namibian Hockey Union President, Reagon Graig, thanked Bank Windhoek for the support and said that the sponsorship goes a long way in ensuring that players can challenge themselves and continue to put Namibian hockey on an intercontinental and global stage. \u201cThrough the sponsorship, Namibia has become the darling of African hockey by representing our national team. We are very proud to be associated with Bank Windhoek,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Pack also paid homage to the late and former NHU President Marc Nel, who passed away in 2021. She said Nel made it a point to foster a strong relationship with the Bank. \u201cThe ripple effect of the legacy that he left behind is perhaps one of the reasons why hockey can be perceived as one of the most progressive sports codes in Namibia,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Pack concluded by wishing the League uninterrupted play, a return to healthy competition, and welcoming more players into the Namibia Indoor Hockey League through the League\u2019s efforts at the developmental level. \u201cKeep up the good work, enjoy the game and keep hockey relevant in Namibia,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The Bank Windhoek Indoor Hockey League will begin in May with participating teams competing in the Premier, Reserve, and First Leagues.<\/p>\n
