Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>DESPITE the coronavirus outbreak and prolonged drought in the Kunene Region, it remains an investment hub. This is according to Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, who officiated at the ninth edition of the Opuwo Annual Trade Fair (OPATF) fundraising dinner.<\/p>\n

A total of N$627 905 was raised during the fundraising dinner held at Opuwo Town on Thursday. The Rani Group of Companies pledged the highest amount of N$120 000 and a partnership starting in 2023. FNB pledged N$70 000.<\/p>\n

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila stated that the 9th edition of the Opuwo Trade fair comes at a critical time when Namibia and the world\u2019s economy is negatively impacted by Covid-19, sadly resulting in loss of lives, closure of businesses and loss of income.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the light of all these socio-economic challenges we are faced with, we need to hold hands and rebuild our economy,\u201d she said. She said they need to continue building a society in which all Namibians are pulling together against poverty, inequality, and all social ills.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister said this is in line with the Harambee Prosperity Plan 2, and that the government is prioritizing the implementation of targeted policy programmes to enhance service delivery, contribute to socio-economic recovery and engender inclusive growth.<\/p>\n

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said there is a need to continue with their concerted efforts among all stakeholders, with Government and the private sector working together to achieve one objective: uplifting people\u2019s living standards.<\/p>\n

Mayor of Opuwo Rosa Mbinge-Tjeundo said the outbreak of Covid-19 has economically affected the country hence a resolution was taken by the council to ensure the economic recovery of the town.<\/p>\n

Mbinge-Tjeundo added that the Opuwo trade fair has always been an excellent platform for the marketing and selling of products. \u201cThis is an event where we market the town, attract investors and create opportunities through business networking,\u201d she said<\/p>\n

Mbinge-Tjeundo added that the expo will also create linkage for local and international business people. The OPATF is scheduled for 25 to 30 April 2022 and will be held under the theme \u201cUnlocking Trade Investment Opportunities towards a Shared Economic Vision amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n
