Africa-Press<\/a> – Namibia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Hage Geingob has appointed Basilius Dyakugha as Namibia’s new ombudsman.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was confirmed in a media statement issued by State House on Thursday. Dyakugha was one of three candidates interviewed by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for the position on Friday last week. He replaces long-serving ombudsman John Walters, who has been in that position since 2004.<\/p>\n

Dyakugha, who is currently a chief legal officer attached to the Law Reform and Development Commission, will be Namibia’s fourth permanently appointed ombudsman since the country’s independence in 1990, succeeding Walters, Bience Gawanas and Fanuel Jariretundu Kozonguizi.<\/p>\n

Other candidates interviewed for the position last week were National Council secretary Tousy Namiseb and Ruth Herunga, a former magistrate and public prosecutor and the current acting chief executive officer of the state-owned National Fishing Corporation of Namibia (Fishcor), of which she is a member of the board of directors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
