Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>IT was a happy moment for some pupils from various schools in the Erongo region, as they excitedly awaited the Project Never Walk Alone team’s arrival in their respective towns last weekend.<\/b><\/p>\n

The project visited Omaruru, Usakos, Karibib, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay on Friday and Saturday, where they handed over 1 250 pairs of shoes.<\/p>\n

Many pupils arrived at the venues wearing flip-flops or school shoes that were not in good condition, others simply wore casual shoes to school.<\/p>\n

They returned home with smiles of joy on their faces, after not only receiving shoes in their size, but motivational talks, love and entertainment from the project team, who also took the time to share a few words of encouragement.<\/p>\n

The initiator of the project, Tim Ekandjo, noted that the initiative does not only aim to put shoes on the feet of pupils, but also create hope and build confidence for the road ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project is not about buying shoes and giving them to teachers, the most important part is to engage with the learners and motivate them. To the learners, I know some of you stay in shacks, some go to school hungry or do not have uniforms. We are here for you. We are your parents. You will never walk alone. When you put on the shoes, we want you to become the best that you can be. Start thinking differently and demonstrate confidence,\u201d he said on Saturday at Walvis Bay.<\/p>\n

The genuine leather shoes are guaranteed to last at least five years if cared for well.<\/p>\n

Ndjambula Reinhold, a pupil from Narraville Primary School, thanked the team for their support.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not a good thing to see others looking good in their school shoes while you are freezing every day. Today, you have put a smile on our faces and wiped [away] our tears, so we say thank you very much.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pupils from different schools at Walvis Bay received their shoes at Seaside Primary School.<\/p>\n

The project has already delivered 2 650 pairs of shoes to pupils in the Hardap and Omaheke regions, and by the end of last weekend the project would have delivered a total of 3 900 pairs of shoes.<\/p>\n

It recently received another boost of N$1,1 million, bringing the total commitment of sponsors since launch last year to N$2,7 million.<\/p>\n

Ekandjo said the project requires N$15 million to cover the current need of over 64 000 pairs of shoes.<\/p>\n
