Africa-Press<\/a> – Namibia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>A TOTAL of 94% of the people that have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the Oshana Region have made a full recovery. The region recorded its first COVID-19 case on 22 June 2020, after a learner who visited Walvis Bay returned home.<\/p>\n

According to the Oshana Regional Health Director, Johanna Haimene, who spoke during a meeting with regional leaders emphasised the importance of the increased uptake of the available vaccines.<\/p>\n

Haimene stated that the region has recorded a total of 8 621 positive cases, of which 8 211 people have been declared recovered. She added that the region still has 77 active cases.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recorded 334 deaths ascribed to Covid-19 since last year. Of these, 21 fatalities were reported last year and 313 were recorded since the beginning of this year,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

On the issue of vaccination awareness, Haimene said that the regional councillors will have to integrate vaccination campaigns in their ordinary community meetings. At the same time, community health workers are providing health and vaccination information while going door-to-door.<\/p>\n

She noted that the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) is also collaborating with the National Task Force in a campaign to make people aware of the importance of vaccination among members of the business community.<\/p>\n

\u201cA strategy has commenced where we will collaborate with churches in order to educate various communities about the advantages of vaccination,\u201d she added. There are 13 fixed COVID-19 vaccination sites and 24 mobile vaccination teams operating in the Oshana Region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
