Peace be with you, Oshana Region,\u201d said Swapo Party Secretary-General Sophia Shaningwa when she addressed a gathering of party members, supporters and sympathizers at Oshakati Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The gathering was part of a series of commemorative events preceding the party\u2019s 62nd anniversary on the 19th of April and happened amidst intense internal squabbling, with regional coordinator Samuel Nelongo trading accusations with a group of the party\u2019s Foot Soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>The quarrelling centred around whom to invite to address the commemorative events in the region. Nelongo preferred Vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who eventually declared herself unavailable, while the Foot Soldiers opted to invite Shaningwa.<\/p>\n<p>In her speech, Shaningwa said the disagreements were ironed out. She emphasized the need of maintaining party unity, thereby ensuring that Swapo remains a force to be reckoned with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Swapo we can quarrel,\u201d she said, \u201cbut we know how to solve our differences for the sake of party unity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She noted that internal divisions did hurt Swapo in the past and the ruling party can no longer afford such divisions. She warned those who want to transform the party into a boxing ring for settling personal differences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInfighting makes the party vulnerable,\u201d she said.
