Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Namibian government will not tolerate rebels who try to smuggle firearms into Angola during the neighbouring country\u2019s presidential and National Assembly elections to be held in August.<\/p>\n

Incumbent president Joao Lourenco is eligible for one more term. Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Dr Albert Kawana said that Namibia will not allow unruly behaviours by people crossing the borders.<\/p>\n

Hence the two countries signed the protocol of cooperation between the Namibian Police Force and the National Police of Angola to strengthen public safety and security between the two countries.<\/p>\n

During an extraordinary summit of the Heads of State and Government of the South African Development Community (SADC), a resolution was taken to ensure that SADC countries remain peaceful and stable, and to prevent terrorist groups from destabilizing SADC.<\/p>\n

Kawana said as the government will not allow illegal weapons from the country to disrupt the elections in Angola. \u201cWe will take action against those criminals who want to destabilize Angola and we will ensure that we don\u2019t leave any stones unturned,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Namibia and Angola reconfirmed stronger cooperation on matters pertaining to civil protection, terrorism, smuggling of firearms and fuel, immigration, correctional services and the exchange of information.<\/p>\n

The countries will further strengthen the existing bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation, and urged officials to fast-track the finalisation of the amendment to the existing Visa Exemption Agreement on Diplomatic, Service\/Official and Ordinary Passports, extending the entry period from 30 to 90 days for citizens of both countries.<\/p>\n
