Africa-Press<\/a> – Namibia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>NATIONAL Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) parliamentarian Josef Kauandenge is of the opinion that parliament needs to rectify the border treaty of 2018.<\/b><\/p>\n

Since the signing of the treaty between Namibia and Botswana, citizens, and especially those living along the Chobe River in the Zambezi region, have been living in fear of harassment and intimidation from the Botswana Defence Force (BDF).<\/p>\n

Kauandenge said that discussions held by different leaders of both countries to date have not yielded a solution for harmony in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been treating the symptom of the disease and not the disease itself for quite some time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In 2016 Namibia was warned by the African Union not to sign the treaty.<\/p>\n

Since the treaty was ratified by parliament, Kauandenge asked that a motion be discussed on whether the treaty does not violate Article 32.9 of the Constitution and Section 8 (a) of the Communal Land Reform Act.<\/p>\n

Last week, international relations minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and her Botswana counterpart, Lemogang Kwape, met with community leaders along the Chobe River.<\/p>\n

The two urged the communities to foster a peaceful coexistence and fruitful cooperation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
