Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>CELEBRATING the Nama cultural festival held in Keetmanshoop on Friday, President Hage Geingob in his official remarks stated that today, in a free Namibia, Namibians can no longer ascribe to the Bantustan ideology of division and therefore must rid themselves of any cultural stereotypes perpetuated in the past.<\/p>\n

The Nama cultural festival which was held under the theme \/Gui!n\u00e2xasib a sida \/gai (Unity is Our Strength), was attended by Joseph Isaacks, Chairperson of the \/\/Kharas Regional Council, Gaob Dawid Hanse of the !Khar-Khoen Traditional Authority and Distinguished Gaogu (Chiefs) from Namibia, Botswana and South Africa.<\/p>\n

Geingob\u2019s speech was delivered on his behalf by Minister in the Presidency Christine \/\/Hoebes.<\/p>\n

Geingob said culture should never divide Namibians but should rather unite them.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy celebrating our respective cultural festivals together, we will develop a greater understanding and appreciation of the verbal and non-verbal norms of other cultures, thus bringing us closer together.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president further shared that Namibians should ensure that the respective cultures foster a better understanding amongst all the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we understand each other better in our souls, then it will be easier to overcome any economic or political barriers that may exist in our society. As Namibians, we should strive to understand that ultimately, we are all alike and share the same problems, aspirations and dreams. Thus, the answer to solving our problems and achieving our aspirations lies in unity and the holding of hands across all cultural lines,\u201d Geingob noted.<\/p>\n

The president further encouraged Namibians to take pride in their cultures and tribes and not promote any isms. \u201cTherefore we refrain from engaging in tribalism, racism, sexism, nepotism and fascism. These are all counterrevolutionary traits and enemies of a progressive society and therefore they are enemies of the Namibian House,\u201d Geingob stated.<\/p>\n
