Africa-Press<\/a> – Namibia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE Ongwediva Tennis Court was today once again reopened after its doors were left close to the public for years due to its dilapidated state. This Ongwediva Town council put aside N$600 000 for the renovations, which took about five months to complete.<\/p>\n

The court was today officially opened by the town\u2019s mayor, Taarah Shalyefu. Shalyefu stated that although their target was to complete the public court by May, the pandemic interrupted certain aspects of the project and resulted in delays.<\/p>\n

He, however, commanded the contractor for working hard to deliver as agreed at a reasonable time. Shalyefu indicated that the facility will add value to the quality of life in Ongwediva.<\/p>\n

He added that the facility is well-known by Ongwediva residents as a sport hub, which can accommodate tennis, volleyball, netball and basketball players.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, we should all be proud today as we officially open this venue for sports activities,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He explained that the project supports the Town Council\u2019s wish to have residents, particularly the youth, participating in sporting activities and, in the process, attain fitness goals, as well as sporting excellence both locally and internationally.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince sports is a career, it is possible for us to get the best players from Ongwediva in various sport codes,\u201d he noted. Shalyefu said he has put his trust in the community to take good care of the tennis courts.<\/p>\n

Shalyefu further noted that the Town Council is in the process of developing a multisport field at extension 17, which will host as many sport codes as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first phase has already started as we speak and the Town Council is committed to attracting important games to our town in the next few years,\u201d he said, adding that their effort to develop sports at town cannot succeed without input from the community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
