Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>MORE than two million children in Angola are reportedly not attending schools due to a lack of teachers and infrastructures, therefore the country is constructing 5 000 schools to address the issue of children working as street vendors instead of getting an education.<\/p>\n

Angola\u2019s vice-president of Angola Bonita De Sousa Diogo stated this during the meeting with Namibian vice-president Nangolo Mbumba and local and regional leadership at Ongwediva on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cInvesting in the education of the Angolan child is not only the quickest route to improving the welfare of girls and boys, but is the country\u2019s best chance at achieving long-lasting poverty reduction, and prosperity for future generations, starting with today\u2019s children,\u201d Diogo said.<\/p>\n

According to him, they still have no local governance that could address challenges faced in their country as many of the children are not properly guided on how best to address the matter.<\/p>\n

Diogo was responding to a question of some traditional authorities who voiced concerns about a high number of children from Angola selling on the streets instead of being in school.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe really have a huge problem,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Vice-president Nangolo Mbumba said education is a fundamental human right of any child and a parent is punishable by law if they do not send their children to school.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the children deliberately choose not to go to school, but their parents are doing nothing to solve the matter,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
