Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>WORLD-CLASS Qatar Airways has officially resumed its flights to and from the Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek, following President Hage Geingob\u2019s first meeting with the Emir, His Royal Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, in Qatar.<\/p>\n

This is an incredible boost for the country\u2019s tourism sector.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Informant\u00e9, Namibia Airports Company spokesperson Dan Kamati indicated that the Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with 98 passengers landed on Saturday at around 12:30.<\/p>\n

This was Qatar\u2019s first flight to Namibia since the outbreak of the Covid-19 Pandemic in early 2020.<\/p>\n

According to Kamati, Qatar Airways will service the route between Doha in Qatar and Windhoek three times a week, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Since its inception in September 2016, the Windhoek- Doha flight schedule was four days a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are still not yet out of the woods as far as Covid-19 is concerned around the world. So, as the world continues to open up, we are very proud to host world-class airlines such as Qatar Airways, to connect Namibia to the rest of the world. The connectivity of Namibia to the world, and from the world to Namibia, has indeed increased. We also have the likes of Eurowings, Airlink and FlyNamibia, amongst others, which is very important to us, as we revive the aviation and the tourism sector, as well as the economy at large,\u201d Kamati said.<\/p>\n

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the aviation and tourism sectors were some of the severely affected industries in Namibia, while an economic downshift was prevalent in all parts of the world.<\/p>\n

The world continues to open up, and with more flight services to Namibia, recovery and potential growth in the country\u2019s economy look positive.<\/p>\n

President Geingob\u2019s recent trip to Qatar was one of the key highlights of the Government\u2019s economic revival initiatives.<\/p>\n

During the President\u2019s bilateral talks with the Emir, the leaders agreed that the aviation and tourism sectors have immense growth potential. The Qatari Government also indicated its interest in working closely with Namibia Wildlife Resorts to scale up cooperation in the hospitality sector.<\/p>\n
