Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>OHANGWENA has committed itself to making land available for housing purposes.<\/p>\n

The Eenhana Town Council has serviced 420 low-cost plots with electricity at Ekolola (Extension 10 and 11) to the tune of N$5.6 million during the financial year 2021\/22.<\/p>\n

This was stated by Regional Governor Walde Ndevashiya during his State of the Region Address (SORA) on Wednesday at Eenhana.<\/p>\n

Ndevashiya stated that as part of addressing the housing backlog a total of 72 housing projects were carried out through Public Private Partnerships during the period under review.<\/p>\n

Thirty 30 houses were constructed at Omhito Extension 6 by Eenhana United Construction to the value of N$27 million,<\/p>\n

Seventeen houses were constructed at Eenhana Extension 6 by Formosa Islands to the value of N$12.4 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cFourteen houses were constructed at Omhito Proper by Eenhana Town Council in partnership with the Development Bank of Namibia Project, at the value of N$9.1 million and eight houses have been constructed at Omhito Extensions 2 and 3 by Greywall Properties to the tune of N$3.8 million,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

During the period under review, seven individual high and low-cost houses were also constructed at Eenhana Proper and Eenhana Extension 2 and 3 respectively at an estimated value of N$2.4 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis brings the total number of the houses constructed in Eenhana during the period starting June 2021 to May 2022 to 78 houses, with a combined value of about N$54 530 000,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Ndevashiya indicated that Council will avail more than 380 plots for allocation at Ekolola. \u201cThis will go a long way in addressing the pressing need for housing in Eenhana.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said with Ongha recently being proclaimed as a settlement, a total of 2 424 plots are currently being surveyed at Ongha Proper and Extensions 1 and 2 to the tune of N$3 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the 2021\/2022 financial year, the Region received 112 applications for resettlement purposes and only one applicant was successfully resettled,\u201d he said, adding that this is a cause for great concern to the Regional leadership, as the number of applicants in need of resettlement keeps rising every year.<\/p>\n

Ndevashiya said the Region has also registered a high number of Customary Land Rights totalling 1 355.<\/p>\n

Of those, ten people applied for the right of leasehold and 19 applied for occupational land rights. In total, 1 384 land rights were registered.<\/p>\n

At Ohangwena Proper, 104 plots have been fully serviced with complete sewer reticulation.<\/p>\n

Thirty-one business plots with sewer reticulation have been serviced in Ohangwena proper business area, whereas construction of an Open Market is at an advanced stage.<\/p>\n

In addition, a total of 204 plots were fully serviced at Engela-Omafo Extension 3.<\/p>\n

Ndevashiya indicated that the Helao Nafidi Town Council has implemented six infrastructure projects ranging from sewerage reticulations, roads upgrading to bitumen and maintenance of gravel roads for close to N$15.2 million<\/p>\n

The Okongo Village Council completed Phase 2 of the electrification of Extension 1, as well as Phase 4 of the gravelling of roads in Extension 2. Phase 1 of the construction of the Open Market to the tune of N$4 million is still ongoing.<\/p>\n
