JULINHO Sporting launched their \u201clong overdue\u201d women’s football team at Rundu on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The coach and owner of Julinho, Nelson Luis, said having the women’s football component of the club has been a long time coming.<\/p>\n

\u201cEspecially now that soccer has been dormant, for a club like this it is necessary that we have a ladies team,\u201d’ he said.<\/p>\n

The launch event at Sisindi Lodge was marked with a mini pre-season tournament, and a music show featuring the likes of King Tee Dee and TKB.<\/p>\n

The team played their first game against the Brave Heroes, with the scores ending 2-2. Their second match was a 4-0 thumping of the TK Academy.<\/p>\n

Julinho’s goals came from captain Dominga Kasoma and her deputy Helena Amwandangi, underlining their value to the team early on.<\/p>\n

Loide Eulu also scored once in the win.<\/p>\n

Amwandangi, who is a striker for the club, said she is proud to be part of Julinho’s project and vision for women’s football.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels good because I get to inspire fellow female players and other young ones that are still in school. Instead of them being on the streets they can maybe also join our team,\u201d the sharpshooter said.<\/p>\n

Ex-Julinho stalwart Korea Roseman is in charge of the team. After his career was cut short by injury, he ventured into coaching. He was instrumental in the initiation of the women’s team, through which he wants to motivate and invest in the region’s youth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole journey was very funny. We only had two girls, so when coach Nelson told me that he is ready to start the women’s team, I didn’t hesitate because my main aim is to inspire the young ones,\u201d Roseman said.<\/p>\n

The young coach gave a brief analysis of how the team performed in the two games.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have sharp attackers that can run and midfielders that can put through good passes. So, in the first minutes we adopted a [Jose] Mourinho style of play because I like to coach like him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we waited for them to attack when we got to the second half, as we looked at how we could go about the attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n
